  • Positive Beacon Or Delusional Faker?

Stephen Devine

12/26/2020

There’s a fine line between encouraging positivity and blissfully ignorant delusion. I’m nailing my colours firmly to the mast on the side of realism although the thought of blissfully ignorant delusion holds a certain charm.

Broadcasting positive vibes and the business as usual act just doesn’t sit well with me. For someone averse to change at the best of times it hasn’t gotten any better recently. Adjusting to the crazy world we now inhabit is not easy.

Enough with all of this positive, delusional fakery (yes it is a word)

Stoicism and resilience are admirable qualities we call upon to see us through challenging times, however just like willpower I believe these qualities are finite and I think I used all of mine up in Lockdown 1 & 2.
Some of the issues that I and perhaps YOU have to deal with at the moment are.

Lack of structure and routine.
If you’re working conditions have changed yet again it will take time to adjust and getting some framework in place will help create a sense of familiarity.

Worry about the future
It’s hard to think about health and fitness when there are financial worries and uncertainty about the future. People generally don’t need another reason not to go to the gym so the fact that they’re closed may present the perfect opportunity to take up residence on the couch for the remainder of 2020.

Overwhelm and Confusion
At this time of year it seems like every Fitness Professional on the planet invades your news feeds and has the perfect solution to your particular fitness problem. Perhaps they do but you’re not quite ready to give up on the couch addiction just yet.

Alcohol
Put down that glass, yes you‼️It’s 10am for god’s sake. Safe to say that bars and pubs closing hasn’t been the obstacle to drinking that we might have imagined

What’s The Point?
Falling off the wagon is one thing but don’t leave it so long to climb back onboard that you’ve forgotten where you parked it. Gyms are closed and nothing is going to change anytime soon so what’s the point in investing any time or money in ANYTHING never mind fitness. In fact health and fitness has now slipped so far down the ladder of priorities that, submerged in uncharted depths it now requires its own oxygen supply.

I’ve deliberately left Part 2 until tomorrow as it will force me to write the solution follow up piece. I mean who doesn’t appreciate a holier than thou Personal Trainer preaching about how you should be living your life. Stay tuned for my four point blueprint plan to beat the pandemic and crush 2021 tomorrow.

Ok I made that last part up but I might write something more positive very soon…
