Ralph Waldo Emerson puts it better than I ever could

“As to methods there may be a million and then some, but
principles are few. The man who grasps the principles can
successfully select his own methods. The man who tries
methods, ignoring principles, is sure to have trouble.”

When you’re trying to get back in shape it’s easy to get
caught up in the latest fad diet.

They either promise results without pain.

Speedy results.

Or prove their validity with lots of social proof – before
and afters.

But this is really putting the cart before the horse.

Methods before principles.

But I get it, why would you not want speedy results, without
pain that many others have had success with?

In a word – SUSTAINABILITY.

If you’re in your forties and out of shape, chances are you
spent a lot of time getting to that point.

When someone comes along and waves the magic diet wand and
you achieve your ideal weight or goal.

What next?

How do you maintain?

If you’ve not built in the strategies of training, nutrition
and mindset then this stage will fail.

This is why you see so many yo – yo dieters.

Heart breaking for the dieters but the industry brushes
itself down moves on, repackages the diet and markets again
to the same clients.

This should illustrate the importance of having sound
principles in place.

Principles such as.

Work ethic.

Consistency.

Knowledge based approach.

Mastery of the basics.

Diet plans following the 80 – 20 rule.

These are all concepts that no doubt at the back of your
mind you realise are important in any endeavour.

However it’s how they’re implemented that makes the
difference.

If you want to see the benefits of training and how your
body can move in it’s forties then have a look at this
